Introducing Geography

In this chapter you gained a background in the discipline of geography, and learnt why it is an important way to study and understand the world we live in.

You have understood:

• That there are three major types of geographic study and what each involve, including physical, human, and environmental
• That physical geography is about the world’s physical landscape and its characteristics
• That human geography is about populations, where and how they settle in the world, and their economic practices
• That environmental geography looks at how people use their natural surroundings and resources
